How It Works

An initial conversation

If you are interested in having your biography written by me, we begin with a short, free conversation to get to know each other and decide if the project feels right for the both of us.

Recorded interviews

The next step is to hold a series of recorded conversations where we will get a sense of the direction of the work. These are gentle, guided discussions rather than formal questioning, shaped around your life and what feels most important to you.

Writing and shaping

Following our interviews, I will draft the text carefully, shaping it into clear, readable prose. I may also research and add details about the local area or the history of the time to add context to the draft.

Review

When the draft is completed, I will invite you to review it and comment on changes you would like to be made. When you are satisfied, I will send you the completed project as a pdf file.

Printing

Basic interior layout and short-run printing can be arranged at cost if you would like printed copies. You pay only what the printer charges with no markup. This is entirely optional.

The timescale for each project will vary depending on its length, but I will keep you informed at each stage of the process.

After our initial conversation, if you decide to go ahead with a project, we will agree on its scale. We will sign a client agreement and a non-refundable 25% deposit will be payable to reserve interview dates and begin work.
